The primary benefit of this scheme is the extension of compliance deadlines, which allows state and local government entities with populations of 50,000 or more to ensure their digital platforms are accessible. While there are no direct financial incentives or grants associated with this scheme, the long-term benefits include improved service delivery, enhanced public engagement, and reduced legal liabilities related to non-compliance. By meeting accessibility standards, these entities can better serve approximately 2.68 crore individuals with disabilities in India, ensuring they can access vital information and services.

Eligibility for this scheme is specifically targeted at state and local government entities that serve a population of 50,000 or more. There are no age, income, or caste restrictions for individuals, as the focus is on the compliance of government entities rather than individual applicants.

Individuals or entities that do not meet the population criteria of 50,000 or more are ineligible for this scheme. For example, a local government body in a town with a population of 30,000 cannot apply for the extension. Additionally, private organizations or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are also excluded from this scheme.

While there is no direct application process for individuals, state and local government entities must ensure they have the following documents ready to demonstrate compliance: 1. Accessibility audit reports, 2. Web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) compliance documentation, 3. Records of training provided to staff on accessibility, 4. Public feedback mechanisms for accessibility issues.

1. Identify the designated compliance officer within your government entity. 2. Conduct an accessibility audit of your web content and mobile applications. 3. Prepare the necessary documentation as listed above. 4. Submit your compliance report to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment via the official portal at https://disabilityaffairs.gov.in. 5. Await feedback from the ministry regarding your compliance status.

The compliance deadlines have been extended until December 2026. Entities are encouraged to start their compliance processes as soon as possible to avoid last-minute rushes and ensure they meet the required standards by the deadline.
